Silicone Water Repellent

DESCRIPTION
Brinlay Silicone-based water repellent is formulated to protect and maintain the natural beauty of all types of masonry. It overcomes discolouration due to water carrying dirt into the pores of the masonry, and helps overcome efflorescence due to the lack of penetration of water into the masonry. Prevents growth of moss, fungus and mould by maintaining masonry in a dry condition. It is supplied as a water white thin liquid, it dries clear and does not stain, discolour or alter the texture of the masonry. It is designed for exterior application to all types of masonry surfaces including brick, cement, asbestos cement sheeting, natural stone work, etc., and may be used on interior masonry surfaces which may require protection from water spilling.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces must be prepared according to standard painting procedures. Surfaces to be treated must be thoroughly dry, cleaned to remove all efflorescence, and all mould or moss deposits treated. Do not use detergents when cleaning, as traces of these materials will definitely effect the water repellency of the following silicone treatment.
APPLICATION
Brinlay Silicone Water Repellent may be applied by
brush or spray. The surfaces must be clean and thoroughly
dry. Apply a generous quantity of water repellent to
the surface, ensuring that the coverage figures quoted
below are not exceeded. Since the water repellent is
perfectly clear, a
second application is recommended after 24 hours to
ensure complete protection of the masonry surface.
NOTE:- Brinlay Silicone Water Repellent takes at least
24 hours to develop its full water
repellency. Drying time varies with weather conditions.
Application in very cold and wet weather is inadvisable.
Surface to be treated should be dry and not treated
in less than 7 days after rain. The product is not
suitable
for use on painted surfaces or slate. It should not
be applied to new unseasoned concrete or cement work.
DRYING TIME: Allow up to 24 hours before re-coating.
THINNING: Thinning is not recommended. Clean up may be effected with mineral turps.
COVERAGE: Coverage can vary with
the porosity of the surface. As a general rule, the
coverage can be as low as 2 square metres per litre
on soft, very porous material and up to a
maximum of 5 square metres per litre on harder masonry.
NOTE:- Provide adequate ventilation during application
and curing.
This product is lead free within the meaning of the
appropriate health act.
When spraying Brinlay Silicone Water Repellent, the
use of a flooding technique is recommended, using just
enough pressure in the spray gun to give a non-atomising
stream. When applying
Brinlay Silicone Water Repellent, a run down of about
25cm on the surface should be aimed for.
