Traditional Interior Wood Stain

A semi-transparent oil-based stain suitable for use on all new interior woodwork. Interior stain is a wipe-on / wipe-off stain formulated to be overcoated with polyurethane. Use on new or old timber, where all previous finishes have been removed. The surface must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dirt.
Application: Stir until thoroughly mixed to a uniform colour.
Apply one coat with a soft cloth (a brush may also be used,
but be careful not to overload). Make a small pad and work
evenly into the grain. Allow to set for 10 minutes, then
rub lightly with a soft cloth in a circular motion to remove
any excess. The intensity of the stain colour will depend
on (1) the porosity of the timber, (2) the length of time
before stain is wiped off, (3) for deeper colour repeat process.
Drying Time: |
Touch dry in 2 hours, allow 12 hours drying at 25°C
before over-coating with polyurethane. Do not apply
when temperatures are below 10°C. |
Coverage: |
9 – 12 square metres per litre depending on
porosity of timber. |
Clean Up: |
Clean brushes and equipment with mineral turpentine. |
Handy Hints: The final colour of the timber will be affected by the colour of the timber you are applying to, eg. Pine or mahogany; also the number of coats applied. Always test stains on an off-cut of the same timber, or a concealed part of the job before proceeding on actual job. All Brinlay Stain Colours are shown on maple.
